GETTING UP & RUNNING
As a brand new organization at Old Dominion University, our biggest task is to get our group up and running. We are working to grow our membership both in numbers and in experience and expertise.
Currently, we are drafting a constitution for the organization and setting up our structure. ODU has granted the organization official recognition, while we are finishing final paperwork to formally align our group with ACM SIGDOC.
PROJECTS
ACM SIGDOC Newsletter: SIGDOC ODU has taken over much of the web presence of our parent organization. We created ACM SIGDOC’s December 2009 newsletter, and will continue to do so as we introduce changes to the site that will give the international organization and its members up-to-date information more rapidly.
ACM SIGDOC and Social Media: We are also ramping up SIGDOC’s use of social media, such as Twitter and Facebook, to distribute news to the organization.
Research: Faculty Advisor Dr. Liza Potts and Vice President Dave Jones both presented papers at ACM SIGDOC’s 27th annual conference in October 2009 at Indiana University. Those papers are available via the ACM Digital Library, ACM’s online database for all scholarship collected in the association’s many publications.
Potts and Jones have combined that work as the foundation for a more expansive project studying social software.
